Heart
Risk Evaluations is a high-level
medical tool designed to identify and reduce risk for heart attack and
stroke. It utilizes a computerized system that analyzes 22 common risk
factors for heart attack and stroke and returns an index score as well as
provides personalized, detailed, printed reports that outline a course
of action for improving heart risk factors.
The Heart
Risk Evaluations web page is a rich source of heart-healthy
information. It is designed to be very educational and to
produce changes that will lead to increased cardiovascular health that ultimately
causes a reduction in cardiac events.
Included
is our online version of the book "Cholesterol and Heart
Risk," which thoroughly discusses cardiovascular
risk as it relates to total cholesterol levels and the subcomponents
of cholesterol, such as HDL "good" and LDL "bad"
cholesterol. Other risk factors are also discussed. Also included is a cholesterol risk chart, which
has been referred to as the most accurate chart of its kind available.
It's very easy to use, and provides a thorough cardiovascular
analysis based on total cholesterol levels, HDL, the ratios between
them, and triglycerides. Triglycerides are a blood fat that are
also a factor in coronary risk.
Data and
research from the most respected authorities in the field have been
heavily drawn on. These include Dr. William Castelli, longtime
medical director of the famed Framingham Heart Study, Dr. Dean Ornish,
Dr. John McDougall, Robert Kowalski, Dr. Harvey Simon of the Harvard
Medical School and others. Dr. Ornish's
program for reversal of heart disease is discussed, as is data from
the Framingham Heart Study. Framingham has revealed perhaps more
than any other study or source the bulk of data available about blood
lipids, including total cholesterol, HDL and LDL levels,
triglycerides, and how they all relate to cardiovascular disease.
An optimal diet, including recommended percentage of dietary fat, is
also provided.
The
following factors are evaluated in Heart Risk Evaluations:
Age,
Gender, Total Cholesterol, HDL, LDL, HDL/LDL Ratio, Triglycerides, Stress/Tension, History of Cardiac Disease, History of
Bypass, History of Angioplasty, Angina, Family History of Heart
Attack,
Exercise, Body Weight, Waist Measurement, Smoking, 2nd-Hand Smoke, Diabetes,
Post-Menopausal, Systolic Blood Pressure and Diastolic Blood Pressure.
